Heartworm, Ticks & Fleas
Now that the warmer months are here, it's time to think about, tick, internal parasites and flea control. Please feel free to call and schedule appointment to discuss a preventive plan tailored to your pets lifestyle.
Hyperthermia (Overheated)
Please do not leave your pet in a hot car. The temperature inside a vehicle is hotter than the temperature outside. It doesn't take very long for your pet to overheat. Too many accidents have happened. Make sure there is shade and water for them to get to at all times.
Also, certain forms of algae can be toxic. Algae can be found in ponds or other bodies of water.
Be careful with lawn pesticides. All contain chemicals that may cause serious illnesses for your pet. Be careful when walking your pet on lawns that were recently treated.
Cheatgrass and Foxtail season is here!!
Cheatgrass is a generic name for several types of brome grasses that all share similar stiff, spiny seed heads called awns. These awns all have developed backward barbs that allow them to become easily attached to just about anything while simultaneously preventing them from coming out easily. They are frustratingly good at attaching themselves to our pets but not very good at letting go.
Helpful Tips
After being outside in an area that has cheatgrass please check between their toes and around their ears. Pods can even be known to work their way into the skin through the lungs and abdomen, which can cause serious infections and problems. Pods can also get stuck in pets' mouths and back in the tonsils.
Signs pets may have a cheatgrass:
Head shaking or cry when touch in by the ear
Small red spot between the toes
